FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
I need to restart a song, will the MVP restart?
The MVP responds to MIDI notes to trigger the start of video clips or lighting cues. Once triggered, the MVP will play your cue independently of your session until the cue ends (when not in loop mode), until a new cue is triggered, or until playback is stopped by triggering MIDI note 0/C-2. To restart a song, trigger a playback stop if necessary and then make sure the cue is re-triggered on the song restart.
How many hours of video can I store on the MVP?
The MVP holds up to 100 gigabytes of video files. On average the MVP will hold around 33 hours of 2K video, or 70 hours of 1080p video.
How long does it take to set up?
Most shows can be configured in under an hour! Once a show is configured, performing with the MVP is as simple as connecting it to your playback computer or hardware controller and connecting the output to your screen or lighting package.
Do I need any other hardware?
All you need is a MIDI source (controller or your existing playback computer) and something to output video and/or lights to. For video playback, MVP will output to any screen or projector over HDMI, and for lighting playback MVP outputs over ArtNet to any ArtNet node connected to your lighting package.
Are there additional features coming?
We have a long list of features we’re continually developing and will roll out through over-the-air updates. Note that lighting playback and LTC support are currently in open beta as we continue to develop features.
Why is the MVP hardware and not just software?
Software requires a computer to run on, meaning the added costs of a dedicated video/lighting playback machine, or adding processing strain to your existing audio playback machine. The MVP performs all the processing directly on the device, meaning no burden on your existing systems.
What is DMX and ArtNet?
DMX is the industry standard lighting data protocol for controlling stage lighting fixtures. A DMX signal includes 512 channels of data, each individual channel of which may control different parameters of a lighting fixture (color, position, etc) depending on the profile of that fixture and the DMX address (channel) it is set to begin listening to.
ArtNet is a protocol for transmitting DMX data over an ethernet connection and is capable of transmitting multiple DMX ‘universes’ (streams of data). ArtNet nodes are used to translate ArtNet into DMX for the final connection to lighting fixtures.
