# Network MIDI Interface

The **Network MIDI Interface** setting controls which of the MVP's network connections (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) advertises the RTP-MIDI session.

It lives in the **System Settings** dialog, under the **Network MIDI Interface** expandable panel.

### Choosing an Interface

| Option | Advertises on | When to use |
| ------------ | ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Ethernet** | `eth0` | Default. Use for fixed installations, FOH-to-stage runs, and any show where latency and jitter must be minimised. |
| **Wi-Fi** | `wlan0` | Use when the MVP is connected over Wi-Fi and no Ethernet is available. |

> **Performance Note**: RTP-MIDI over Wi-Fi is more susceptible to latency and jitter than Ethernet. For critical live performances, select **Ethernet** whenever a hardwired connection is available. See [Network MIDI (RTP-MIDI) Setup](/5.-triggering/network-midi-rtp-midi-setup.md) for full network setup instructions.

### Security Considerations

When **Wi-Fi** is selected, anyone on the same Wi-Fi network can discover and connect to the MVP's RTP-MIDI session. Do not use RTP-MIDI over Wi-Fi on public or untrusted networks.

* On a trusted private Wi-Fi network (e.g., a dedicated show network), this is safe.
* On public Wi-Fi (e.g., a venue's guest network), use **Ethernet** instead, or ensure the Wi-Fi network is isolated and password-protected.
